Breastfeeding Cafe Events 2014

Today is the first official day of the Cafe! Yay! You can see all of the events from the Cafe on our calendar, but I thought I’d share each event with a bit of a description here as a general reference.

August 1st

11am-2pm: Breastfeeding Photography with Brooke Roundy. Brooke is offering FREE breastfeeding photos at Memory Grove Park to all moms who want to participate so long as they sign the release form. Bring your own picnic lunch, blankets, things to make you comfortable as you’ll likely be sitting on the grass. Get more info and the release form from her website. 375 N 120 E, Salt Lake City.

4pm-7pm: Breastfeeding Cafe KICKOFF! We will be showing the film Breastmilk at the Red Rock Room in the main hospital at the University of Utah. Snacks will be provided by Sage’s Cafe/Vertical Diner. Silent Auction items will be present and able to be bid on. Silent Auction will stay open (online) until August 22nd at the closing event. After the film will be a panel of breastfeeding experts including Jeana Jones (La Leche League leader), Meghan Reed (IBCLC), Janet Oakeson (WIC Peer Counselor and La Leche League leader), and Sierra Brooks (postpartum doula). August 2nd

8am-2pm: Downtown Salt Lake City Farmers Market Cafe. In case you haven’t heard yet, we weren’t able to get our regular space at the Downtown Salt Lake City Library, so we decided to do Farmers Markets instead! Come look for our booth, get information, and meet our volunteers! All of the Cafes are auctioning off a copy of The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, so come and try to win! 8am-2pm: Ogden Farmers Market Cafe. Come look for our booth, get information, and meet our volunteers! The Ogden Farmers Market booth will have a La Leche League leader available to answer questions as well as many raffle prizes (in addition to The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding)! August 3rd

9am-2pm: Wheeler Farms Farmers Market Cafe. Come look for our booth, get information, and meet our volunteers! All of the Cafes are auctioning off a copy of The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, so come and try to win! We will also have an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant at the Wheeler Farms booth to answer any questions (see below). 9am-2pm: Ask an IBCLC. Nicole Bernshaw IBCLC will be at our Wheeler Farms Farmers Market booth to answer any and all breastfeeding questions for FREE. If you need help in your breastfeeding journey, this is a great opportunity!

August 4th

10:30am: La Leche League of West Jordan. Come meet other nursing moms and bring your questions to the monthly West Jordan La Leche League Meeting at the South Jordan Library. 10673 Redwood Rd, South Jordan.

2pm-3pm: Tea Time at Sage’s Cafe. Come join us for a mother’s tea time at Sage’s Cafe! Gather with other moms and get some free tea! 234 W 900 S, Salt Lake City.

August 5th

12pm: La Leche League of Murray. Come meet other nursing moms and bring your questions to the monthly Murray La Leche League Meeting at Murray Park Church of Christ. 494 E 5300 S, Murray.

August 6th

10am: La Leche League of Provo. Come meet other nursing moms and bring your questions to the monthly Provo La Leche League Meeting. Contact lllofprovo@gmail.com for location information.

6:30pm: La Leche League of Weber/Davis. Come meet other nursing moms and bring your questions to the monthly Weber/Davis County La Leche League Meeting at BirthWise Birthing Suite. 360 S Fort Lane Suite 1-B, Layton.

August 7th

10:15am: La Leche League of Salt Lake City. Come meet other nursing moms and bring your questions to the monthly Salt Lake City La Leche League Meeting at the Sprague Library. 2131 Highland Dr., Salt Lake City.

4pm-9pm: Heber Valley Farmers Market Cafe. Come look for our booth, get information, and meet our volunteers! All of the Cafes are auctioning off a copy of The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, so come and try to win! The Heber Valley Farmers Market will also have a live concert! 5pm: Breastfeeding Success. Come learn the basics of breastfeeding from Karin Hardman, IBCLC, LLLL. Honey Bump Maternity, 1155 N Main St., Layton.

August 8th 

10am: Reclaim Your Body: Posture Awareness, Baby Wearing and Baby Caring. Hallie Robbins, DO of Integral Rehabilitationis a long-term supporter of La Leche League as a past member of the extended nursing community. Hallie is a doctor who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) and hands-on healing methods. She uses her head, heart, and hands to help people discover ways and words to be well. Sprague Library. 2131 Highland Dr., Salt Lake City.

1pm: Babywearing 101. Jillian Hanes, owner of Pretty Paisley Productions, will give a class on the basics of babywearing, different carriers, and safety. Bring any carriers you would like to get help with! Honey Bump Maternity, 1155 N Main St., Layton.

August 9th

2:30pm: Ask a Doula. Amy Ihrig will answer basic questions about child birth and how your birth experience affects breastfeeding. BirthWise Birthing Suite. 360 S Fort Lane Suite 1-B, Layton.

August 12th

10am: La Leche League of Sandy. Come meet other nursing moms and bring your questions to the monthly Sandy La Leche League Meeting at the Alta View Hospital Women’s Center, Room 307 (3rd floor). 9660S 1300 E, Sandy.

7pm: Powerful Birth Group. Join the Powerful Birth Group for their monthly meeting. This meeting Tayla Matheson will speak on The Power of Positive During Pregnancy and Delivery. Arrivals Birth Services. 1190 E 5425 S Ste. 330, Ogden.

August 13th

10am: Tongue Ties. Susan Johnson, IBCLC, LLLL and Meghan Johnston, IBCLC, LLLL will discuss tongue ties, what they are, how they can affect breastfeeding, and what to do about them at the Anderson-Foothill Library. 1135 S 2100 E, Salt Lake City.

August 14th

10am: La Leche League of Salt Lake City’s Mothering Your Nursing Child Meeting. Come to a special meeting for mothers who are nursing children over a year old. Meet other moms who understand the joys and challenges of nursing beyond infancy at this special monthly Salt Lake City La Leche League Meeting at the Sprague Library. 2131 Highland Dr., Salt Lake City.

August 15th

9am: Infant Massage. Carolyn Stevens, LMT, birth and postpartum doula will teach hands on techniques with instruction of a full body massage for baby,soothing strokes to assist in relief of colic & constipation, and exercises to improve and encourage brain/body coordination development. Please bring your baby or a doll to practice on, two blankets, a favorite toy if your baby is a bit older and in need of distraction, and massage oil if you have a preference (otherwise avocado oil will be provided). Liberty Park, NE side by the “little playground.” 600 East 900 S, Salt Lake City.

August 16th

9am-1pm: Gardner Village Farmers Market Cafe. Come look for our booth, get information, and meet our volunteers! 2pm-3pm: Tea Time at Vertical Diner. Come join us for a mother’s tea time at Vertical Diner! Gather with other moms and get some free tea! 2280 SW Temple, Salt Lake City.

6:30pm: La Leche League of Provo. Come meet other nursing moms and bring your questions to the monthly Provo La Leche League Meeting. 3rd floor of the Provo Library. 550 N University Ave., Provo.

August 21st

6:30pm: La Leche League of Downtown Ogden. Come meet other nursing moms and bring your questions to the monthly Ogden La Leche League Meeting. Arrivals Birth Center. 1190 E 5425 S, Suite 330, Ogden.

7pm: La Leche League of Salt Lake City. SPECIAL COUPLES MEETING! Bring your support partner! Come meet other nursing moms and bring your questions to the monthly Salt Lake City La Leche League Meeting. LDS Hospital Education Wing (Northwest Corner). 8th Avenue and C Street, Salt Lake City.

August 22nd

4pm-7pm: Breastfeeding Cafe CLOSING. We will be showing the film The Milky Way at the Red Rock Room in the main hospital at the University of Utah. Silent Auction (online) ends at 11:59pm. 50 N Medical Dr, Salt Lake City.

August 28th

10am: La Leche League of Weber/Davis. Come meet other nursing moms and bring your questions to the monthly Weber/Davis County La Leche League Meeting. Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. 2374 Grant Ave, Ogden.

7pm: La Leche League of Tooele. Come meet other nursing moms and bring your questions to the monthly Tooele La Leche League Meeting. Contact sprintina@gmail.com for location information.
