Every Sunday from 1pm until 5pm, expect to find an IBCLC on hand to answer any questions or concerns you might have about breastfeeding.
What’s an IBCLC? An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a health care professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding. IBCLCs are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) under the direction of the US National Commission for Certifying Agencies. IBCLCs re-certify every 5 years which ensures the professional standard, including the IBLCE Code of Ethics.
An IBCLC assists the normal course of breastfeeding and works with other health care providers when there are major challenges. Workplaces committed to helping women transition back to employment as mothers may employ an IBCLC as part of a workplace lactation program.
If you are a new or expectant mom with a question, feel free to pop in any Sunday afternoon — or check the Events Calendar throughout the month to see when an IBCLC is on hand in the Cafe.
More information for families, employers, and healthcae providers may be found at the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) and the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).
